On the Fence by Kasie West

Publication Date: July 1, 2014

Publisher: Harper Teen

Synopsis: She’s a tomboy. He’s the boy next door…
Charlie Reynolds can outrun, outscore, and outwit every boy she knows. But when it comes to being a girl, Charlie doesn’t know the first thing about anything. So when she starts working at a chichi boutique to pay off a speeding ticket, she finds herself in a strange new world. To cope with the stress of her new reality, Charlie takes to spending nights chatting with her neighbor Braden through the fence between their yards. As she grows to depend on their nightly Fence Chats, she realizes she’s got a bigger problem than speeding tickets-she’s falling for Braden. She knows what it means to go for the win, but if spilling her secret means losing him for good, the stakes just got too high.

Fun, original, and endearing, On the Fence is a romantic comedy about finding yourself and finding love where you least expect.

Personal Thoughts: I have read  Kasie West’s The Distance Between Us  and it was a delightful read. I can’t wait to read this upcoming one although it is not coming out until July 2014! 🙁  This one sounds like a classic girl next door meets boy next door story and I love those kind of books. It is going to be a great summer read. 🙂 I love romantic comedies and this one is going to be a funny one.

What are you Waiting on this Wednesday?

Winter Escape to Cuba

Winter is slowly creeping up on us. First it was the slow drain of warmth that left us shivering, then it was the shorter days and now with the arrival of snow, we know that winter is just around the corner. Although it now a favorite season, there are a lot of things that I love about it. When you take away the fact that it is freezing and sometimes we are turned into human popsicles waiting for the bus or just being outside, it does look pretty spectacular when you are in the middle of the woods or just outside with the snow on the ground.

The first official snow fell last night and it left the area around my house and my work just magically white and amazing. There is just something special when the snow is sparkling in the sun. Speaking of sun, i’ll be getting a lot of it in Cuba this upcoming weekend. 🙂 Yey!

I have never been to Cayo Coco or any part of Cuba in my life so I am really excited. I am usually one of those people that stay at home when it gets really cold and in the past I was not able to go due to work, school or something else that came up.

I can’t wait to try out a number of activities that I’ve always wanted to do like snorkeling, scuba diving, going into mysterious caves and much more. It will be interesting to see the life and going ons of Cuban culture around me. I have heard a lot about people who vacation at Cuba every year and now I’ll get to experience it first hand myself. I’ve never been to an all inclusive so I think my system will be in shock for a while knowing that I can and drink  as much or as little as I want to. The concept just blows my mind.

I’ll be posting some photos after my trip to give all of you a taste of what there is to do in Cayo Coco, Cuba.

Do you travel to warmer climates when winter rolls around? What places have you gone to?

He’s exquisitely hot. Exquisitely tousled. Exquisitely screwed in the head.

Cammibelle Hicks just wants to survive her first year of college. Desperate to forget her troubled past, she throws herself into her degree and book review blog. So what if her life is one long tumblr page of grumpy cat GIFs? She doesn’t need to get out more, and she definitely doesn’t need a man.

Hunter von Styles approaches life like he’s spoiling for a fight: with a tempting scowl. A cage-fighting, ex-rocker billionaire, it’s unclear why Hunter’s at college. Frankly, it makes no sense. Then Cammie falls into him—literally—at a party, and he’s obsessed. He needs her more than a moist towelette at a barbecue.

Though Cammie’s friends warn her against Hunter, she can’t resist his charms; especially not when he buys her shoes. And GoodReads. And a unicorn. But when her handsome best friend, medieval reenactor Archer Riddick, makes a play for her heart—and challenges Hunter to a jousting match—it turns out that Hunter has demons of his own. Demons that aren’t real ones, but metaphorical ones—which are MUCH WORSE, when you think about it…

Join Hunter and Cammie on an emotionally exhausting journey into love.

And co-dependence.

And probably therapy.

5 Unique Christmas Gift Ideas That Are Sure To Delight

Please welcome Damien S. Wilhelmi to the blog today. With the holidays and Christmas coming up next month, Damien S. Wilhelmi is here to offer us a few unique Christmas gift ideas for that special person on your list. 🙂 Enjoy!

Handmade presents are scary because they reveal you have too much free time. -Doug Coupland

Christmas is just around the corner, and no doubt things are going to start getting both hectic and stressful soon. Trying to figure out the right gift to give, trying to budget enough money out to pay for all these gifts, and of course the oh-so terrible effort of hanging up Christmas lights. But if you’re short on ideas, these 5 unique gift categories may be exactly what you need, or in the least they may spur on some other thoughts. Some of these gifts can be expensive, while others can be relatively cheap. So read on if you’re stumped on what to give your friends and family this Christmas season because these 5 unique idea categories are sure to delight.

Custom and Hand-Made Gifts

You can always make gifts yourself, and is especially worthwhile for children. Whether that be pieces of art, small jewelry boxes, birdhouses, or a knitted piece of clothing. The best part about making gifts, beyond the thought and time spent creating it, is that they are often more appreciated for those exact same reasons. It’s obvious you didn’t just order something online or spotted an item walking through a store.

Now if you’re not all that crafty, you can still give custom made gifts, you’ll just have to have someone make them. You can speak with artists and hire them to make any number of objects; paintings, glasswork, pottery, sculptures, and anything else you can conjure up. If you have someone special in mind, you can even have a piece of custom made jewelry created. These are especially thoughtful because you would be choosing the materials, stones, and overall theme and design. Gifts like these still show the amount of thought that went into them, which in the end often make them more appreciated.

Activity Gifts

Too often, people give gifts just to give them. They don’t realize a gift doesn’t have to come in a box or be gift-wrapped. And how many ties, sweaters, pairs of socks, or books do people need? Sometimes the best gift you can give is one that gets them out to enjoy life; something out of the ordinary that they may never have thought to do themselves. Depending on how adventurous or capable they are will dictate the activities themselves, but consider concerts and shows, theatric events, go-karting, paintball, wine tastings, mystery dinners, comedy shows, and even laser tag.

If they are into the outdoors and extreme activities, such things as skydiving (even indoor skydiving), scuba diving or rock climbing classes are sure to thrill. You can send them on backcountry horseback riding adventures, guided whitewater rafting tours, or even zip lining! When you literally think outside of what will fit into a box, your options increase dramatically. Not to mention, these are all great fun, memorable, and something you will be surely thanked for.

Sensory Gifts

People always love food and drinks, especially alcoholic drinks. So you really can’t go wrong with those options. You can send quality dried meats, steaks, seafood, cheeses, and the list goes on. You can even send wine and food gift baskets that would suit the receiver’s fancy. Or if you know of a specific bottle of wine or alcohol someone enjoys, you can always shop for alcohol and wine online to find exactly what they want. Try not to get them something you enjoy, unless you know your tastes are similar. Be sure to give them something they want and would enjoy drinking, because not all tastes are the same.

Experience Gifts

If you really want to make a person smile, gift them the gift of travel. No doubt this can be pricey, but if you want to give a gift that will forever be remembered, send them somewhere they’ve never been, or ever thought they would go. Whether that be a package trip to Italy, Iceland, Japan, or Africa, there is no doubt they will be thrilled. Traveling is perhaps one of the greatest experiences a person can have. It builds character, perspective, and understanding. Not to mention, whenever they reflect on their time spent abroad, they will think of you.

Stress Relieving Gifts

Finally, when all else fails, you can give a gift that will simply relieve some stress. Of course you can send someone to the spa or to get a message, but if you really want to get rid of a persons headache, do it. Do they have something in their home that needs fixing, a broken heater, windows, new paint, or pipes? Do they have some outstanding medical bills, credit card bills, or debt over all you can assist them with? Does their vehicle work correctly, or does it need a transmission repair, tire alignment, or brake replacement?

Christmas for a lot people is stressing because they simply don’t have the funds to go around, so you can easily make them happy by taking care of some things in their life that need to be dealt with. Because in the end, if you’re still unable to decide on a present, there is no greater gift than peace of mind. So help them take care of the things they’re forced to put off and they will no doubt love you for it.
