Synopsis

A New Adult Comedy

When Sydney Porter transfers to Northern University, she’s ready to put her past behind her. Landing a job on campus as an irreverent radio personality, she uses the anonymity to air all the campus dirty laundry—earning the infamous Sunday Lane more than a few enemies. But her true passion is spinning records, even if Drunk Earl is her biggest fan.

Sydney’s junior year kicks off with the promise to be amazing. Or at least it does until Gray Peters, hotshot quarterback, unexpectedly reenters the scene. His presence threatens to destroy everything she has going, as well as resurrecting a night Sydney never wants to remember or repeat. She’d run away like a coward, but this time she’s determined to stay and fight.

A twisted battle of wit and trickery ensues, with one common goal—vengeance. Sydney and Gray set out to make each other miserable. But misery loves company, and soon, walls are destroyed and truths are revealed that could change their future forever.

I added another track, exploding the speaker with a fast beat, and danced around until I felt a pair of hands run up the sides of my thighs, slow and easy.

“What are you doing?” I yelled up at Peters. He was standing directly behind me and the top of my head landed just below his chin. His answer was to pull my backside into his hips.

“I’m dancing, Sinister.” He groaned into the back of my neck. “This is what you wanted, right? No inhibitions. I’m your bitch tonight, right? We can start flinging knives in the morning.”

I let out a cracked laugh, not quite understanding this one-eighty in his personality. “You don’t bring a knife to a gun fight, Peters, but if you’re referencing your dick, I’d be shocked to receive a paper cut.”

He pressed even farther into me as I continued to mix.

Looking back on this now, I should have just elbowed him in the stomach and tripped him off the edge of the balcony, but I was drunk. Elated by the dancing crowd. Everything about this place screamed sex—the people, the lighting, the sweat dripping off bodies, and his husky breathing against my ear breaking down my protective dome. I tried to muster the strength to stop him, but with my mind half altered, my body took over completely.

As if he knew I was struggling, he gently lifted the back of my damp hair and planted his lips on my neck. His tongue swept across my skin, and he softly moaned over my fret board. I released a sharp breath into the microphone, and he laughed against the back of my ear.

“What… are… you—”

Before I could finish my pathetic plea to end this, his hands slid over my front, gliding down my stomach and stopping just before the waistband of my underwear.

“Peters,” I rasped.

His hand rolled over my shirt, and he pulled it deep between my legs. I let out a breathy groan into the microphone and tipped back my head until it rested against his shoulder. Peters dragged his tongue up the inside of my neck like I was a Popsicle—his favorite flavor—long and flat. He pulled my sweat into his mouth.

When the music rose to a sharp crescendo, so did my panting, right into the mic. It was hard to believe this six-foot-two behemoth could deliver such a delicate touch, but I didn’t have to turn around to know it was him. My body had a memory of its own.

REVIEW

I have not read any books by KF Germaine and I am really glad that I have had a chance to read her work. Sydney Porter is a one of a kind girl who does what she wants and doesn’t care what others think about her. She speaks her
mind and doesn’t take any flack from others just because she doesn’t conform to those around her.

She is a radio personality at her university campus radio station and she roasts her fellow classmates (how awesome is that?! haha). It is easy to do under the alias Sunday Lane and it helps her to hide under it. What starts off as something that she thinks will not hurt anyone, actually ends up hurting someone close to her (her brother Jack).

As time goes on, she finds out that a mistake that happened to her two years ago has landed on her doorstep and he
will not stop until he exacts revenge. Grey Peters might have been a one night stand back then but things are different now and Sydney is not going to make it easy for him and vice versa. Through a test of wills and different characters, we are shown that neither of these people are willing to back down. It is only when things really go down that they realize that there is more than meets the eye in their twisted relationship and that they could make it work if they are willing to compromise long enough to see what they really have.

This book was a unique and refreshing read and I haven’t read one quite like it in a long time. It was a laugh out loud comedy  throughout the entire book with each chapter a nice surprise. The dialogue was sharp, the plot was fantastic, and the characters just priceless. I would definitely recommend this book as a must read. I hope that there is a sequel to this book because I would love to see how the characters progress 🙂

KF Germaine is a Pacific Northwest native and part-time author. Besides reading too late into the night (4 AM is still considered night, right?), KF has several life pleasures which she won’t list because, well, it begins to read like an Oscar-winner acceptance speech and no one wants to hear about her hairdresser. Instead, KF believes one’s secret enjoyments are more telling. So to name a few: Circus Peanuts candy, watching country music videos on mute, and awkward/borderline-inappropriate conversations with grocery clerks.

The terrorist at JFK refuses to speak to anyone but Sherlock. She heads back with counterterrorist Special Agent Cal McLain to try to get him to talk.

Racing Savannah Book Review

16045296Racing Savannah by Miranda Kenneally

Publication Date: December 3, 2013

Publisher: Sourcebooks Fire

Source: Library

Synopsis: They’re from two different worlds.

He lives in the estate house, and she spends most of her time in the stables helping her father train horses. In fact, Savannah has always been much more comfortable around horses than boys. Especially boys like Jack Goodwin—cocky, popular and completely out of her league. She knows the rules: no mixing between the staff and the Goodwin family. But Jack has no such boundaries.

With her dream of becoming a horse jockey, Savannah isn’t exactly one to follow the rules either. She’s not going to let someone tell her a girl isn’t tough enough to race. Sure, it’s dangerous. Then again, so is dating Jack…

Personal Thoughts: All the books that I have by Kenneally have been great (some more than others) to date so when this one came out it was a auto read and it did not disappoint. Savannah and Jack are from two different worlds (the rich and the middle class) yet when she meets him at the stables at this family’s estate she can’t resist. She knows that she is playing with fire, but there is something about Jack that makes it worth the risk.

Jack is the popular, cocky guy who people love and Savannah can’t help but be in the same boat. It doesn’t help that it is against the rules and if they are caught doing anything inappropriate her dad could loose his job. As time passes and they get to know each other better, the forces can’t help but keep throwing them together.

Through a series of events, Savannah will need to make a decision that will change her life and those around her. Will she choose Jack and go with her heart or will she stay away and protect her family’s job and sacrifice the best thing that ever happened to her?

Kenneally does a fabulous job combing high school drama, the daily going ons of life on a horse racing farm and the great characterization of Jack, Savannah, Rory and Vanessa.  A great read overall that will leave you wanting more.

Halloween—with its tricks and treats—is a dust bunny’s dream come true. Just ask Lyle, Sedona Snow’s faithful sidekick. But for Sedona, it’s a nightmare. He has his own agenda when it comes to Sedona, but even the best-laid plans are no match for the passion that springs up on Rainshadow….

Personal Thoughts: We are brought back to Rainshadow and the next adventure with dust bunnies, powerful talents and things that aren’t what they seem. Sedona came to the island to get away from her past and is trying to fit in. Something that she never had a chance to do until now. Things start to change when the Guild Boss Cyrus Jones shows up and checks into her hotel. He is more than he seems and seems to have an agenda of his own.

When things start to go south and traps are being set up to catch Sedona, she turns to Cyrus for help among other things. In this newest adventure filled book, Castle does a great job intertwining the storyline, great characters and history of the island.

teasers-1   Excerpt I woke up slowly to the sound of panting. Hot, damp air was puffing rhythmically against my face. When something wet poked my cheek a few seconds later, I jerked away reflexively. Confused, I cracked my eyes open blearily and staring back at me were saddest, droopiest brown eyes I had ever seen. What the hell? I smothered a scream and struggled to sit up in bed. Blinking against the sledgehammer banging in my skull, I fell back to my elbow and realized two things at once. One, I knew those eyes. General Beauregard was staring back at me forlornly, opening his mouth in a huge yawn, drool stretching between his jowls. Two, I was most definitely not in my own bed.

Looking down to see a tattooed arm draped over my hips, I was slower to realize the most important fact. I wasn’t alone in the bed either. The arm moved into a stretch, and the man next to me yawned too. My elbow fell out from under me, and I laid on my back staring at the ceiling, trying to force my sluggish brain to work. What the fuck happened when I left Grady’s? West leaned over me to rub General Beauregard’s ears.

“Morning, boy. You ready to go out?” West’s voice was a raspy rumble that resonated through me. His bare chest pressed against my left side, and if I lifted myself up the smallest fraction, I’d be able to lick his shoulder. I closed my eyes against the temptation and took a deep breath. I smelled soap, salt, and citrus. I smelled West. I swallowed back a moan.

General Beauregard let out a soft whine of pure bliss and laid his head heavily against me. When I turned to glance at him, his tongue swiped my cheek and his tail thumped against the floor. West laughed softly and gave the dog one last pat.

“I know, buddy. She does look good first thing in the morning.” My cheeks warmed. And other parts of me did too. His arm brushed against my breasts as he pulled it back, and my nipples budded in response. He flipped back the covers on his side and padded quietly across the room to a set of sliding glass doors, opening one enough so that the hound slipped out. The sunrise peeked over the ocean through the glass, but it barely registered before my eyes returned to West. He stood looking out the door in just a pair of boxer briefs. He was all golden skin and lean, ropy muscle and a tight, tight ass hugged by some thin black fabric. I was jealous of that fabric. As he turned back to face me, the grooved definition of his abs was on display, his torso narrowing to a tempting V before disappearing. My eyes dropped lower, taking in the prominent bulge in his shorts. Maybe I was still dreaming. That would explain everything but the jackhammer in my skull. The light dimmed as he drew the curtains and shut out the light.

Slipping back into bed and covering his lower half back up, he turned on his side and faced me, one arm tunneling under the pillow beneath his head, the other resting between us. I stared at his fingers and tried to focus. I did a quick inventory of my body. My head was pounding, but the darkened room helped. My stomach was clenching, but I blamed that more on the view than the hangover. I tensed my legs experimentally. My thighs felt… fine. Not sore at all. What did that mean? Had the sex been bad? Or maybe he had been like Jared, and the act had been over so fast that my muscles never even got a workout.

“Coffee,” I croaked, turning away from him. I couldn’t be expected to think clearly without coffee. I sat up on the side of the bed and swayed dizzily for a moment. Jesus Christ, my head. Looking down, I saw I was only wearing one of the logoed bar shirts from the Wreck and my underwear. My cutoffs were on the floor near the end of the bed and I slid them on quickly, grateful for the oversized length of the shirt. Without looking back, I slipped from the room, figuring the kitchen couldn’t be that hard to find.

Sure enough, it was just down the hall and to the right. I pushed my wild hair out of my face and squinted around the too-bright room. Morning light filtered through curtainless windows and glinted off the oversized stainless steel fridge. I reached for my wrist, but apparently my hair tie had disappeared along with the rest of my clothes. Coffee. I smelled it. I had to be close. Turning around farther, I spotted it. Just past the retro enamel toaster, a glass pot sat beneath the small coffee maker, filled halfway with steaming brown liquid gold. . I plucked a cup out of the sink, not caring if it was clean or dirty, and filled it to the brim.

Leaning back against the counter, I inhaled deeply, trying to expel the smell of West from my mind. As I took my first tentative sip, Wyatt walked into the room, wearing only board shorts. I swallowed the wrong way, coughing and sputtering before setting the cup down behind me, my lungs burning. What was it about these guys that messed with my basic ability to breathe properly? And what the fuck was Wyatt doing here? Wyatt reached around me to pour himself a cup.

“Mornin’,” he said, smiling at me knowingly, his eyes running down the length of my body. I stared at him in dawning horror. Oh. My. God. Did I have a threesome last night?   Wet-
