SynopsisSometimes brotherhood can be another word for conspiracy…

Dennis Mira just had two unpleasant surprises. First he learned that his cousin Edward was secretly meeting with a real estate agent about their late grandfather’s magnificent West Village brownstone, despite the promise they both made to keep it in the family. Then, when he went to the house to confront Edward about it, he got a blunt object to the back of the head.

Luckily Dennis is married to Charlotte Mira, the NYPSD’s top profiler and a good friend of Lieutenant Eve Dallas. When the two arrive on the scene, he explains that the last thing he saw was Edward in a chair, bruised and bloody. When he came to, his cousin was gone. With the mess cleaned up and the security disks removed, there’s nothing left behind but a few traces for forensics to analyze.

As a former lawyer, judge, and senator, Edward Mira mingled with the elite and crossed paths with criminals, making enemies on a regular basis. Like so many politicians, he also made some very close friends behind closed—and locked—doors. But a badge and a billionaire husband can get you into places others can’t go, and Eve intends to shine some light on the dirty deals and dark motives behind the disappearance of a powerful man, the family discord over a multimillion-dollar piece of real estate . . . and a new case that no one saw coming

Personal Thoughts: This was a suspenseful ride throughout the whole book and there wasn’t a time where it was dragging or taking too long to explain something. We are taken on a story that involves Dr.Mira and his cousin and the deep dark secrets that happened decades ago.

Eve and Roarke as well as the rest of the team are brought in to investigate a series of deaths that start to show that they are all somehow related and go back to that one fateful night in college when the boys decided to have some ‘fun’. By weaving a web of deception, darkness and suspense, Robb makes the story that much more engaging, interesting and making you want to know who did it and why. We are also shown another vulnerable side to Eve when Roarke tries to make a few changes in their house and the interaction, as well as what it means overall make things juicy.

A great story that I would recommend to J.D. Robb fans. You will not be disappointed.

Insidious Book Review

Insidious by Catherine Coulter

Synopsis: Insidious is the twentieth thriller in #1 New York Times bestselling author Catherine Coulter’s FBI series. FBI agents Savich and Sherlock must discover who is trying to murder Venus Rasmussen, a powerful, wealthy society icon. They soon find out that the danger may be closer than expected.

Venus Rasmussen, a powerful woman who runs the international conglomerate Rasmussen Industries, believes someone is poisoning her. After Savich and Sherlock visit with her, someone attempts to shoot her in broad daylight. Who’s trying to kill her and why? A member of her rapacious family, or her grandson who’s been missing for ten years and suddenly reappears? Savich and Sherlock must peel away the layers to uncover the incredible truth about who would target Venus.

Meanwhile, Special Agent Cam Wittier leaves Washington for Los Angeles to work with local Detective Daniel Montoya to lead the hunt for the Starlet Slasher, a serial killer who has cut the throats of five young actresses. When a sixth young actress is murdered, Cam comes to realize the truth might be closer than she’d ever want to believe.

With breakneck speed and unexpected twists and turns, Coulter’s Insidious will leave you breathless until the shocking conclusion.unnamed

Personal Thoughts: I was so excited to get my hands on the latest FBI thriller early which involves both Sherlock and Savich. I love reading the annual releases and am always wanting more as I can never get enough.

I loved the layout of the story and how there were 2 mysteries to solve, not just one.  Savich and Sherlock are investigating the murder attempts on Venus Rasmussen and the murderer has to be someone they know. On the other side, Special Agent Cam Wittier is sent to Hollywood to investigate the deaths of aspiring actresses. The murders are especially brutal.

She has an exceptional way of putting the reader into the story. Her descriptions paint the most marvelous pictures in my head, her characters are still growing and the humor is just a cherry on top. The interactions between the characters and the way their conversations are written just draw you in. It is a never ending race against time and Insidious does not disappoint in having a great plot line, being a page turner which keeps you on your toes.

Although I had a good feeling who was responsible for both crimes, Catherine Coulter threw in some twists and turns that went completely the opposite way and blew me away. I highly recommend this book to fans of Coulter as they will not be disappointed and will be left wanting more.

Excerpt

A quiet knock at my door startles me. I turn and crack it open. On the other side stands the most attractive guy I’ve ever seen. He has short dark brown hair, pale skin, and from what I can see, a very well developed body. His eyes, wow they are the brightest shade of blue I’ve ever seen. The thoughts make my heart race and not in a good way. Breathe.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to startle you.” He appears genuine and gives me a small smile. God, he has dimples. No man should be as handsome as this and he definitely shouldn’t be grinning at me the way he is. I squirm under his gaze, and for a moment, I forget I’m in my pajamas. When I gather my wits and remember, I quickly bring my arms across my chest. Real smooth. He tries to hide it, but he chuckles softly. I slink away from him, pulling myself farther into my room using the door to cover me a little.

“It’s okay,” I say quietly, trying not to stare at him. He puts a set of earplugs on the shelf right next to my door. I give him an odd look, asking him to elaborate. Talking to men is not something I do. When he doesn’t, I have no choice but to talk.

“She’s a snorer?” I ask, hoping he’s just giving them to me so that his girlfriend or sister and I don’t run into any roommate issues.

Again, he chuckles. “Maybe…” he says, and I glare at him in confusion. “Well, you must be Fate,” he says, sticking out his hand for me to shake. I look to him and hesitate. Time to be normal, Fate. Taking a deep breath, I place my hand in his and shake it firmly.

“Yes, I am,” I say with a shy smile.

“Great, that’d be weird if someone else was in your room, right?” he says with a chuckle. “I’m Cameron.” My breath catches and I pull my hand away.

What…the…hell…

Hiatus Done

back-from-hiatus

I didn’t originally plan on going on a hiatus, it just kind of happened. As the days and then the weeks went by I just didn’t feel that passion for blogging anymore as I used to and it became a chore towards the end. I’ve been on a much longer hiatus than expected and it made me really think why I started this in the beginning and why after almost two months, I am back.

This blog is not just a blog for me and I really missed blogging. It’s about writing about great books from my favorite authors and discovering new authors who I have never heard of. It’s not just about books but about the community as well and I have missed talking with some amazing people within this community.

I’m coming back with a vigor, fresh ideas and a clear head that’s ready to get started again. It’s been a long while and I am not going anywhere for a long time. I’ve missed this more than I originally thought I would.

With everything that has been happening to me the last two months, it is more important than ever that I am back in a place where I always fit in, and no one judges.
