Publisher: Scholastic

Synopsis: In this new contemporary from YA star Kasie West, a girl who wins the lottery learns that money can cause more problems than it solves, especially when love comes into the picture.

Maddie doesn’t believe in luck. She’s all about hard work and planning ahead. But one night, on a whim, she buys a lottery ticket. And then, to her astonishment —

She wins!

In a flash, Maddie’s life is unrecognizable. No more stressing about college scholarships. Suddenly, she’s talking about renting a yacht. And being in the spotlight at school is fun… until rumors start flying, and random people ask her for loans. Now, Maddie isn’t sure who she can trust.

Except for Seth Nguyen, her funny, charming coworker at the local zoo. Seth doesn’t seem aware of Maddie’s big news. And, for some reason, she doesn’t want to tell him. But what will happen if he learns her secret?

With tons of humor and heart, Kasie West delivers a million-dollar tale of winning, losing, and falling in love.

Personal Thoughts: I love Kasie West and all of her books so she is always an auto read/buy author for me. This story sounds really cute and I can’t wait to see what happens. 🙂

By Your Side

By Your Side by Kasie West

Publication Date: January 31, 2017

Publisher: HarperTeen

Synopsis: In this irresistible story, Kasie West explores the timeless question of what to do when you fall for the person you least expect. Witty and romantic, this paperback original from a fan favorite is perfect for fans of Stephanie Perkins and Morgan Matson.

When Autumn Collins finds herself accidentally locked in the library for an entire weekend, she doesn’t think things could get any worse. But that’s before she realizes that Dax Miller is locked in with her. Autumn doesn’t know much about Dax except that he’s trouble. Between the rumors about the fight he was in (and that brief stint in juvie that followed it) and his reputation as a loner, he’s not exactly the ideal person to be stuck with. Still, she just keeps reminding herself that it is only a matter of time before Jeff, her almost-boyfriend, realizes he left her in the library and comes to rescue her.

Only he doesn’t come. No one does.

Instead it becomes clear that Autumn is going to have to spend the next couple of days living off vending-machine food and making conversation with a boy who clearly wants nothing to do with her. Except there is more to Dax than meets the eye. As he and Autumn first grudgingly, and then not so grudgingly, open up to each other, Autumn is struck by their surprising connection. But can their feelings for each other survive once the weekend is over and Autumn’s old life, and old love interest, threaten to pull her from Dax’s side?

Personal Thoughts: Kasie West books are amazing and always a great read. I can’t wait to read the last book by her 🙂

Tips for Creating a Comfortable Guest Room

Homely bedroom interior with a double bed and lighted lamps on bedside tables alongside a window with a garden view and striped wallpaper

Many enjoy the ability to have friends, family members, and others stay in their home with them. They like the idea of showing hospitality to others. Some people only have the ability to have guests stay in their living room on the couch or in another area where a person really only has enough space to sleep. Others have an entire guest room where they can have their friends stay. If you are setting up a guest room, the following tips can help you create a comfortable area.

The main part of any guest room is a comfortable bed to sleep in. Some people like to keep the bed made at all times just in case they have last minute visitors, while others like to keep all of the bedding stored in a closet or in another area where it will stay clean until they know that company is going to come. No matter what you prefer to do, make sure that the bedding is clean before company arrives. This is one of the best ways to make your company feel comfortable in your home.

Think about how you feel when you walk into the guest room or how you want your guests to feel when they walk in. Think about the colors that are used. Are they colors that make you feel calm and welcome? Many individuals like to use shades of green and shades of blue. This has a calming affect on a person when they walk into a room with these colors. Or if you would like to have your guests feel happy and upbeat when they walk into the room, you might consider using brighter colors, like different shades of orange.

Also, think about the decorations in the room. These will, of course, fit in with the overall theme of the room, but you want something that is going to be attractive. Some individuals use stock scenic photos they find online. They will have these printed, and then they will frame them. Others may choose to put up different pieces of art on their walls, like hanging quilts.

In addition to having an attractive room to stay in, also think about what guests will smell when they walk into the room. Sometimes the things they smell are more powerful than what they see. Many individuals like to use scented candles, potpourri, or other items to make the odor in the room attractive. If you are going for a calm theme, perhaps you can include potpourri or satchels of lavender. This is something that makes a person feel welcome and calm. It really contributes to a homey feel.

An archaeologist, Riley is no stranger to the coast of Clare, but now she finds herself on unsure footing, targeted by the dark goddess who wants more than the stars, more than the blood of the guardians. While searching through Irish history for clues that will lead them to the final star and the mysterious Island of Glass, Riley must fight her practical nature and admit her sudden attraction to Doyle is more than just a fling. For it is his strength that will sustain her and give her the power to run towards love—and save them all…
