Synopsis: Three weeks ago Rachel Bond inherited a bed-and-breakfast. Too bad that it’s in a remote part of Alaska, staffed by a house chef who can’t cook and a guide who can’t read a map. There’s something distinctly strange going on…and that’s not counting the fact that Rachel just got hit by lightning, and her good friend Kellan is suddenly possessed with animalistic sexiness she’s never seen before. Turns out, Rachel’s inheritance is not your regular bed-and-breakfast – it’s the portal to an alternative universe where the people possess unique powers that they can transfer to humans. And things are only starting to get weired..

Personal Thoughts: I was ready to like this book as I have read other books by this author and the previous series I read I thoroughly enjoyed. Unfortunately that was not the case here. The beginning of the story did hook me in about a starving artist (Rachel) and her friend (Kellan) going to see Rachel’s inheritance all the way in the middle of nowhere Alaska. However upon their arrival at the Bed and Breakfast the author took a different angle and things went south and my interest level dipped. The story takes as about the search for answers about Rachel’s great-great aunt Gertrude who wasn’t ‘always there’ (crazy).

The main characters (Rachel and Kellan) did keep me reading until the end but it was a painful read as the language was a little off, lots of back and forth and just the plot line was all over the place.  There were too many unknowns and the way that it was written didn’t make me want to keep reading but I hate not finishing a book, no matter how painful it is. The story just went too fast without too many answers and then everything was thrown in the end explaining. It didn’t really add to the story but turned me off of it.

Overall a disappointing read and I would not recommend this one. That being said, I will be reading other works by this author as I know that she has other great works.
