Waiting on Wednesday: Thrill Me

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.Thrill Me (Fool's Gold, #18)

Thrill Me by Susan Mallery

Publication Date: July 28, 2015

Publisher: HQN Books

Synopsis: Maya Farlow learned the hard way to depend only on herself, so when she fell too deeply for the bad-boy charms of Del Mitchell, she did the only thing she could—she ran. Stunned, Del left Fool’s Gold to make his name and fortune in extreme sports.

Now ten years later, Maya’s been hired to promote her hometown’s new slogan, The Destination for Romance. The celebrity spokesman is none other than Del, the man she dumped but never forgot. Awkward!

Although Del’s not the type to hold a grudge, he’s determined to avoid falling a second time for the woman who broke his heart. He’s a daredevil, not an idiot. Trouble is, in all his adventures, he never found a rush as exhilarating as Maya’s kiss. Maybe risking his heart will prove to be the biggest thrill of all

Personal Thoughts: I love coming back to old favorites where the characters are intertwined from other books in the series. Susan Mallery knows how to write a laugh out loud good plot line and I can’t wait to read all about it in this new series installment within Fool’s Gold.

What are you waiting on this Wednesday?

Christmas on 4th Street Book Review

Christmas on 4th Street by Susan Mallery

Publication Date: September 24, 2013

Publisher: Harlequin HQN

Source: Net Galley

Synopsis: There’s nowhere better to spend the holidays than with New York Times bestselling author Susan Mallery in the town of Fool’s Gold, where love is always waiting to be unwrapped… Noelle Perkins just got a second chance at life, and she intends to make the most of every minute. That’s why she ditched a frustrating legal career to open her own store in Fool’s Gold, California. The Christmas Attic celebrates everything that’s magical about her favorite season. Business is booming, and as a bonus, gorgeous army doctor Gabriel Boylan has offered to help out during the holiday rush.

Gabriel’s memories of Christmas past contain more sour grapes than sugar plums, thanks to a drill sergeant father who ran his home like a boot camp. Spending the holidays with his family while he recuperates from injury sounds as appetizing as last year’s eggnog. Still, there are some enjoyable distractions in town, including sunny, sexy Noelle…and the red-hot mistletoe kisses they can’t stop sharing.

Gabriel didn’t think he was made for happily-ever-afters. But when fate hands you a love as sweet and surprising as this, only a fool could refuse..

Personal Thoughts:  Christmas on 4th Street brings us back to the town of Fools’ Gold and its quirky towns people. They will welcome you with open arms, but watch out because if you hurt someone they care about, they will come after you. Fool’s Gold tends to take care of its own.

That brings us to Noelle and Gabriel. She owns the everything to do with Christmas store called The Christmas Attic. She’s heard of Gabriel because he is Gideon’s brother but he hasn’t been around much. From the start there is something that is different about Gabriel. He has a tough shell but there is a tenderness within that is asking to be let out. Before we know it, he has been hired to work with Noelle and they strike as an interesting pair. As the story progresses and we get to know Gabriel’s side of the family, we learn that things weren’t always too peachy and life was more about duty than love.

Will Noelle’s joyful spirit change Gabriel’s outlook on life or is it too late for the burnout doctor? Only time will tell. Join us and the rest of the Fool’s Gold crowd as they watch an unlikely romance unfold.

Overall the story is a quick read and full of romance and comedy.

Summer Days Book Review

Summer Days (Fool’s Gold #7) by Susan Mallery

Publication Date: May 29,2012

Publisher: HQN Books

Synopsis: New York Times bestselling author Susan Mallery returns with a new Fool’s Gold trilogy featuring three rugged cowboys who will find love in the unlikeliest of places.

Locked in an unexpected land dispute, Rafe Stryker is trapped in the one place he vowed never to return to-the Castle Ranch in Fool’s Gold, California. He made millions facing ruthless adversaries in the boardroom, but nothing could have prepared him to go head-to-head against stubborn, beautiful Heidi Simpson. No one is more surprised than Rafe to discover that he’s finding Heidi-and life as a cowboy-much more compelling than he wants to admit.

For Heidi, the Castle Ranch is the home she’s always wanted. After a life on the road, the vivacious blonde has finally put down roots. She won’t give that up without a fight, not even for a man whose late-night kisses make her yearn to be a little less…wholesome.

As the two turn from passionate adversaries to passionate, period, they’ll discover that summer love can last a lifetime.

Personal Thoughts: This is book #7 in the series and let’s just say that it wasn’t my favorite. The plot starts off with Heidi and her grandfather, Glen being accused of stealing money from May, to help out a friend who was in need. It is not a small chunk of change either ($250,000). They can hardly afford daily bills much less being able to pay her back. The whole sordid mess gets even worse when Heidi’s lawyer tells her to sleep with May’s son, Rafe.

Although the characters were favorable, the plot line didn’t make a lot of logical sense and that put me off. The sub plot romances of Rafe and Heidi and May and Glen were done very well and I enjoyed that aspect. Despite that there was a lot left to be said that could have been improved. There was a lot  of repetition and apologies that didn’t really add anything to the story and really irritated me.

Overall it was an entertaining read that continues the story of Fool’s Gold. However, it is not a book that I would read a second time. Hopefully the next book in the series is a lot better than this one was.

Chasing Perfect Book Review

7203690Chasing Perfect by Susan Mallery

Publication Date: April 27, 2010

Publisher: HQN

Source: Library

Synopsis: Welcome to Fool’s Gold, California, a charming community in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. There’s lots to do and plenty of people to meet, especially women. Because there’s just one tiny problem in Fool’s Gold: the men don’t seem to stick around. Maybe it’s the lure of big-city life, or maybe it’s plain old bad luck, but regardless of the reason, the problem has to be fixed, fast. And Charity Jones may be just the city planner to do it.

Charity’s nomadic childhood has left her itching to settle down, and she immediately falls in love with all the storybook town has to offer everything, that is, except its sexiest and most famous resident, former world-class cyclist Josh Golden. With her long list of romantic disasters, she’s not about to take a chance on another bad boy, even if everyone else thinks he’s perfect just the way he is. But maybe that’s just what he needs someone who knows the value of his flaws. Someone who knows that he’s just chasing perfect.

Personal Thoughts: Fool’s Gold is a charming town set in California. It has its usual small town characteristics such as busy body’s, nose people and no such things as secrets. Charity gets a job as Fool’s Gold city planner and she finds out soon enough that there is a pressing problem. There is a serious lack of men in town and it’s her job to bring them back to town.

As she starts to settle in, she meets the town here and celebrity, Josh Golden, a former world class cyclist. He’s sexy, smart and everything that Charity doesn’t want anything to do with. Before long, sparks are flying and things are starting to get serious. However there are underlying issues coming from both sides that are preventing Josh and Charity to move forward and move on to the next chapter of their relationship. It is going to take compromising on both sides to get over those challenges for a chance at happily ever after.

Susan Mallery does a great job with Chasing Perfect by introducing all the important characters in town, setting the story line in a great area and making the plot quite entertaining to read. Right from the start you get attached to the characters and you are rooting for them. 🙂

Two of a Kind Book Review

Two of  a Kind by Susan Mallery

Publication Date: June 25, 2013

Publisher: Harlequin

Synopsis:  New York Times bestselling author Susan Mallery welcomes readers back to Fool’s Gold, where a one-time fling could become the real thing…

Felicia Swift never dreamed she’d hear a deep, sexy voice from her past in tiny Fool’s Gold, California. The last time Gideon Boylan whispered in her ear was half a world away…on the morning after the hottest night of her life. Her freaky smarts have limited her close friendships, and romance, but she came to Fool’s Gold looking for ordinary. Gorgeous, brooding Gideon is anything but that.

Black Ops taught Gideon that love could be deadly. Now he pretends to fit in while keeping everyone at arm’s length. Felicia wants more than he can give-a home, family, love-but she has a lot to learn about men…and Gideon needs to be the man to teach her.

As these two misfits discover that passion isn’t the only thing they have in common, they just might figure out that two of a kind should never be split apart.

Personal Thoughts: This was the second book that I read by Susan Mallery and it made me want to read the rest of the series. Felicia is a brain genius and can’t help what comes out of her mouth and the knowledge that she knows about everything. She moves to Fool’s Gold to try and fit in and find out what normal really means.

No sooner had she settled in than she hears a voice that she thought she would never hear again from her past. It is the voice of Gideon, her one night stand. For a while she tries to hide away and avoid him, but in a town as small as Fool’s Gold, it is impossible to hide forever. Before either of them knows what’s happened, they are spending more time together and seeking each other for support and comfort. However, there is one thing standing in their way to get closer and that is Gideon’s past.

Overall, I loved Two of a Kind and the character development that it showed. We really got a chance to get to know both Felicia and Gideon. Also, the series factor welcomed familiar characters that we already have met in the past. I love reading a series and seeing how far a character can go.
